The Face-to-face Interview
This face-to-face interview might be with a single person or more likely 2 or more people in the panel interview style.
Preparing for the panel style interview
While a single person interview might seem like an informal chat, the 2 or more panel interview is more common and careful preparation needs to be made.
Nine times out of ten when an organisation contacts you and asks you to attend an interview, you know that you will be meeting the people who have the power to hire and fire. You will have an opportunity to present yourself and your “case” in front of a number of people who are genuinely interested in what you want to say, and the way that you present yourself and your information.
The type and number of questions that you will be asked to answer will vary dependent on a number of factors, including the type and level of position that you are applying for, and how much detail that you have already given in your answers, some clarification may be necessary.
Research and practice are keys to success with face-to-face interviews
Take time to research the company, the job role and the marketplace
Remember to re-read the job advertisement and the job application package for hints and tips and keywords. Also remember to re-read your application, including any statements that you have made addressing the selection criteria.
Most interviews will be based around the core competencies of the position, however, how those questions are asked will depend on the preferred method and style of the organisation and the interviewer(s), and will only be determined once you have sat down in front of the person(s) who will be asking the questions.
